When Devotion Surged 3X: Inside a 24-Hour Cold-Chain Scale-Up for Maha Shivaratri
On the 13th and 14th of February, just days before Maha Shivaratri, we witnessed something incredible.
Milk fulfillment volumes surged 3X overnight.
For most, milk is a daily essential. But during Maha Shivaratri, it becomes sacred, used for Abhishek, the ceremonial offering to Lord Shiva. And when devotion scales, supply chains must rise to the occasion.
Here’s what that meant for us:
📦 Volumes jumped to 3+ lakh units per day
🏬 Deliveries across 150+ dark stores in Delhi-NCR
🚛 Reefer fleet scaled from 30 temperature-controlled trucks to 60+
📈 All executed within a 24-hour planning cycle
Ambient vehicle flex? That’s operational muscle memory.
But temperature-controlled logistics? That’s a different game.
Reefer capacity is tight. Lead times are longer. Costs are higher. Coordination is sharper. You can’t simply “add more trucks” — especially not at short notice. Cold chain precision is non-negotiable when product integrity is at stake.
What made this surge possible?
✅ Daily indent-based planning — customers shared next-day demand forecasts
✅ Dynamic scale-up and scale-down capability
✅ Cost-per-unit partnership model, aligning incentives across the ecosystem
✅ Strong transporter relationships, built long before the surge
The most exciting part?
This wasn’t panic scaling. It was planned agility.
In just a couple of days, we doubled our temperature-controlled fleet, maintained service levels, and ensured millions of devotees had access to milk for a sacred ritual without compromising on freshness or efficiency.
Festive spikes are often seen as stress tests.
We see them as moments of truth.
Because when faith meets fulfilment, logistics becomes more than movement it becomes mission critical.
To everyone across operations, planning, transport partners, and dark store teams who made this happen this was world-class execution.
From 30 reefers to 60+.
From steady state to 3X surge.
From forecast to flawless delivery.
This is what scalable cold-chain excellence looks like.
